Professor Rael Strous MD, MHA, the Durban-born medical director of Mayanei Hayeshua’s Mental Health Department, is one of the leading psychiatrists in his field. He is full professor of psychiatry at Tel Aviv University’s Sackler Faculty of Medicine, he serves on Israel’s national committees on mental health and suicide prevention, he is the chief editor of the Israel Journal of Psychiatry, and he is chair of the Israel Psychiatry Association Ethics Committee. Professor Strous completed his training in psychiatry at New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and was a clinical research fellow in psychopharmacology at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include psychopharmacology, genetics, neuro-imaging, neurosteroids, epidemiology and ethics. Professor Strous is also an avid marathon and ultramarathon runner.
