Thought of the Week with thanks to Josh Wasbutzki

The weekly Torah reading of Lech Lecha begins with G-d’s command to Avram: “Lech lecha” — “Go forth from your land, your birthplace, and your father’s house.”

What makes this command remarkable is that G-d does not immediately reveal Avraham’s destination. He simply says, “To the land that I will show you.”

Avram is asked to leave behind everything familiar, without knowing exactly where he is going.

Avram elucidates that bitachon – trust – is not about knowing what the future holds – it is about having the courage to move forward despite uncertainty.

Often in life, we wait for the perfect moment, complete clarity, or a guarantee of success before making important decisions.

But Avram teaches us that growth begins when we are prepared to step beyond our comfort zone.

Lech Lecha is therefore not merely a journey to a new place. It is a journey towards becoming the person we are capable of being.
