Thought of the Week with thanks to Levi Rosenbaum. The month of Tishrei portrays unity. On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur we crown the king together, when almost every Jew would generally attend shul. On Sukkot, all four types of people are bound together, and despite restrictions, we share the same experience of living in temporary dwellings and eating in the cold and rain. Simchas Torah represents the equality of all Jews as we dance with the closed Torah.

Shabbat Bereishit sets the tone for the year; we decide what to implement as we go back to our daily lives – next week is a full work week for the first time in a while! My lesson from Tishrei is unity. Unity means understanding that everyone is different, but respecting their values and opinions, and truly accepting them for who they are. Only once Adam met Chava was he complete. They were opposites, but through unity, they overcame adversity and prospered.

May we be truly united, without restrictions, with Moshiach.
