Thought of the Week with thanks to David Werdiger. Three words could summarise this week’s Torah reading, Vayak’hel: “they did it”. It describes all the steps taken to construct the tabernacle in the desert.

Another way to look at the reading is with a helicopter view. The three previous portions contained the details of the design. This section described the execution. And the next one (Pekudei) described the audit. This was an important lesson about any major project. Spend plenty of time on the design, so you don’t miss any details during execution. And when the project is complete, do an audit and compliance review. This ensures correct use of resources, as well as a report back to funders and stakeholders.
