Thought of the Week with thanks to Avi Teleki. We have been waiting and counting for the big moment and it is almost here – the giving of the Torah. But with any special event, there are always preparations for it. Since Pesach, we have worked on ourselves during Sefirat Ha’omer and this week we read parshat Bamidbar. In it, we discuss the counting of the Jewish people. No matter what type of Jew he or she is, whether knowledgeable, refined, or in fact quite the opposite, each Jew is counted equally.
This message is an appropriate preparation for the giving of the Torah when the Jews waited at Mt Sinai “as one person with one heart”. We are all unique and special in our own ways. As the saying goes, united we stand, together we fall. May we stand together this Shavuot, united as one and in doing so be worthy of receiving the Torah together with Moshiach.
